Squatting is one form of housing behavior via uninvited occupancy of un-inhabitated building. In Paris, squatting is considered "not illegal", meaning police cant force squatters out of the unoccupied building. Not illegal is not the same as legal, however.

Squatting is one form of shared economy, unlike airbnb, squatters pay back to the society with another form of dignity and survival mentality. In the process of urbanization, where land ownership is unequally distributed, squatting is the stepping stone for stable employment and in most cases low-paid jobs. Without squatting settlement, there are unthinkable conserquence.

While squatting is temporary, provisions of water and electricity are considered critical to its sustainable condition, not to mention sanitary and economic infrastructure.

Next to squatting? if not jail, then it must be suitable housing for all.

There are more than 8,000 beds in the Taichung Prison system and close to 200,000 unoccupied units in the metropolitan area. We should consider making squatting a viable option for those who are left on the streets, should we? If not, we will be forced to build more social housing and shelter facilities, a last resort option.
