As a Taiwanese islander, ocean has been there forever, but not within my recogntion nor connection. As a Taichung resident, Taichung port has been there since 1976, blocking my rights to smell the ocean.

With the coming of new shopping center next to the inner harbor of Taichung port, it is tempting to image a boardwalk, a pier and watersport activities next to the shopping center. One day we might be able to hop on a dinner boat to the Fish market.

When that day comes, we will be able to take the Taiwan Straits as our inner bay, swimming with the white dolphin to the sunset.
